Mentoring Scheme

APS provides support for newly appointed Principals through a semi-structured mentoring scheme in collaboration with MOE. We believe that the sharing of experiences and values from mentors has a great impact on the professional and personal growth of new Principals.

The pilot-mentoring programme was started in March 2007 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The programme is a one-year mentoring scheme that aims to provide support and opportunities for the newly appointed Principals to learn and establish close rapport with experienced Principals.

The mentoring programme has been widely accepted and appreciated by newly appointed Principals. We began in 2007 with 14 newly appointed Principals who signed up for the programme and were paired with their preferred mentors. Since then, the yearly programme has seen almost all newly appointed Principals participating while our number of trained mentors has grown.

"Support both of spirit and of mind is the hallmark of the 6-year old Mentoring Programme for beginning principals. It has not only brought confidence to newly appointed school leaders but has also helped more experienced leaders discover the wealth and value in their own journeys while serving as mentors."

- Ms Chan Lai Fung, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, 2012
